This has been a great course! I have enjoyed reading everyone's blogs post and seeing your Facebook posts on my feed. I have learned many things that will come in handy with my business and I hope I can increase the number of fans I have. Twitter is my next big project and need to be more confident about my marketing skills. I will try to be more creative when it comes to Instagram since this seems to be where I find the younger demographic going and even myself. I hope all you have a very successful campaigns on you social media platforms and that you have learned as much as I have. Happy Holidays to everyone and take care.

Week 14: Planning Future Strategy
I have to say that I feel very comfortable using Facebook with my business. I find it very easy to use some marketing skills to make my post interesting and effective. I have a really hard time with Instagram and the creative side to it, I take pictures and feel that they aren't the greatest and doubt their effectiveness. With Facebook I can work with many departments on campus to make their calls of action more successful with the use of a visuals and catchy wording. I find being able to schedule post very helpful and time saving when social media tends to be a 24/7 activity, sometime I like to turn off all electronics and just breathe. I know I have to be constant in my post and with scheduling post I am able to be there without really being there. I am very reluctant of Twitter when I know that sooner than later I am going to have to make it a part of my daily duties. I wish all of you the best and it has been a great semester!! See you all out in cyberspace.
Week 13: Optimizing Yourself and the Company
visit the Google analytics for business page and pick out which features you think would be the most beneficial to your business to check regularly and why, then write a blog post with this information?
I have to turn in weekly reports to show my success on social media, I have been using the reports provided by Facebook insight and having a second reporting agent will be helpful. With Google analytics think the best feature for me to use is the Custom Reports which can be built in minutes, and they're easy to share with colleagues.I have to email them to my Director and then she forwards them to others on the campus community.

Week 12 Online Marketing
What four additional online marketing tools do you believe could be important to the growth of your business?
I believe Palomar College would benefit from having a sucessful Youtube Channel to provide insight to students and propestive students on what college life will be. Doing online tutorials to how financial aid works, picking your classes, ask a counselor session and etc. would be a good place to look if you have any questions about Palomar College.
Twitter: To use concurrently with Facebook
Google Plus for Andriod users and Google fans
Tumblr: As a blog with pictures of all things college!

Week 11 Online Advertising
In our department we have a very limited budget for advertising and have used Facebook as a means to advertise for free and use the funds for more traditional advertising. If we were able to advertise on Facebook or Twitter I am sure we would go very strong promoting the start of a new semester and promote registration with the help of Enrollment Service. Having an incentive for students to "like" the official college fan page with ads poping up on their timeline if they are in the targeted age group and service area of the college with investing in the "Friends of Connections"
ads. I know the Performing Arts program could advertise their weekly performances with ads if people are already a fan of our page. Twitter could come in handy with followers who have other educational institutions on the feed with the college promoting our upcoming semester and other important dates. Tweets directing followers to our electronic class schedule could be successful since many people will click on links to see where it will lead them to. Since Facebook has worked as a free tool in promoting our different events and programs I think our marketing department will see how long they can keep going without having to pay for ads.

Week 10: Email Marketing
Newsletters are a great way to get information out to your intended audience, I feel for Palomar College to have a successful newsletter it has to be for the 18-24 year old market. The newsletter will be a form to showcase all the happenings on campus to attract potential students and make currents students proud of their place of study. I would like to have various sections where students take the lead and write about their experiences in programs, classes and sports and make Palomar College an attractive place to go to school to. Using graphics and a layout that will catch the eye of the 18-24 age group is very important, using current events and researching what is going on with their age group will be key to capturing the intended audience. With the help of departments on campus we could feature topics that are important to the student and helpful information to make their time at Palomar easier. I think having a 2 editions each semester would help to be update with all the happenings on campus.

Week 9 Blogging for Business
What kinds of categories you would use on your blog to stay organized and reach your target audience. How would these categories help the business grow?
Being a blog for an educational institution I feel that having categories in which students can relate to are very important.
I would divide my categories into:
Student life: Have a "student blogger" write about their experience as a Palomar College student.
College 101: Write about the ABC's of Admissions, Financial Aid, Counselling, Assessment, Educational Plans.
Career Path: Highlight an vocational/technical degree offered on campus.
Athletics: Successful student athletes.
Having other departments on campus do "guest blog posts" to do a showcase on programs they offer or their office staff who are able to help the students.
I visited the following blogs:
Waffle Haus
Eric's Weblog
Turman's Blog

Week Nine Blogging for Business
Blogging can be such a great outlet for someone to express themselves, but how much personal information is it necessary to write about for it to be interesting. I have read blogs where people go on and on about their love lives, living situations, work life and etc. and it's so entertaining to read it and feel like you are best friends with the blogger. I think it's up to the blogger to figure out how much they want to be a public figure, blogger in themselves are a new kind of celebrity. Privacy is something someone should think about when they are considering what they are going to expose about themselves on their blog.

Week 8 Visual Social Media
I know of one community college that is using Pinterest as one of it's social media platforms. Irvine Valley College http://www.pinterest.com/MyIrvineValley/ has a great site full of boards and pins which have to do with their college. They have 128 followers and over 1200 pins, their boards have to do with college life to a campus tour through pictures. The pictures are great shots and it captures the beauty of the campus.

Week 8 Get Visual
"Lets get Visual"
Here at work I have been using Facebook for about 4 years and about a year ago after going to a conference I found out that going visual is the best way to get engagement on your page. Lots of the posts I do are of workshops, events and or announcements for the campus and having continuous copy is just going to bore our audience. When began asking for flyers and pictures from the various departments on campus to promote the event they were having and saw a big increase in the posts engagements. I have been following Tumblr and find it fascinating how people use a visual to express themselves and been using this as a personal journal and have been thinking of asking if we should develop a Tumblr for the younger demographic but find that if I want to post pictures of the campus and such Instagram is a better platform for our business type. Youtube could be a great avenue to make how-to-videos for our most asked questions, Like how to register for classes? and other school related questions. I think it would be a great way to reach out to students with students doing the videos they would be able to relate and use a platform that is being used relied on heavily for peoples opinions.

Week Six Pages Liked on Facebook and Scheduled posts
Working with the official Palomar College's Facebook I liked pages that were relevant to education.
I liked all the Community Colleges in San Diego County, departments in our college who also have Facebook pages to keep update with departments activities and events. I also liked local news channels to stay informed with current events regarding Palomar College.
Scheduling post is a great feature that Facebook has and it saves me time on weekends when I know I won't have access to my computer. I feel successful page requires constant activity and with this feature you are able to remind students of activities that will be going on Monday or even a Football game on Saturday night by scheduling a post for Saturday morning.
On Thursday, Oct. 9 I scheduled a post for a Volleyball game happening on Friday, Oct. 10 since I knew I wasn't going to be by desk due to an event on campus. I had it post at 7 a.m. and had two likes by 1:30 p.m. when I logged in to post a photo of the event we were having.

Week #5 Facebook Page Components
The difference between post reach and post engagement is that engagement is the total likes, comments and shares your post get and post reach is the number of unique people who have seen content associated with your page. Reach measures your brand's effective audience where in engagement can provide what you audience is interested in. In the page I manage I see very high engagement when I post funny pictures of cats or dogs, I get the most likes and shares. I think students like to see a bit a humor in the midst of traditional post. We haven't paid for any of our posts all of our reach is organic, people are following our page on their own. I tend to see on certain posts people are sharing our post and are generating an viral reach for people who are not getting our feed organically. Facebook insights come in very handy, I have taken into consideration the times when I have the most visits on the page and tend to post at that time. I also can see the competition and their engagement percentages and scramble to come up with more creative post if we are down in likes and engagement.
Week #4 Defining a Target Market for My Business
Week #4 Defining a Target Market for My Business
The business that I will be using for Facebook is the official Palomar College Facebook page.
My target market is anyone who is interested and or is a already affiliated with the college. Our target age-range is 18-24.
We are competing with Mira Costa College to the west and Mira Mar College to the East, we need to capture the attention of perspective students in our district area. Palomar College has over 200 degrees and certificates which we are promote and events within the campus.
We would like to get more people to like our page and have more engagement on post that are related to the campus. I would like to learn how to bring in more likes with out having to pay for posts.

Week 3-Websites I Visit Frequently
www.temptalia.com
Why are they effective? I am a makeup hoarder and Christine
of Temptalia.com has found a market of others who are interested in reading
reviews of makeup before making a purchase. Temptalia.com has made a community
of makeup lovers unite and has made it easy to find anything related to makeup
within one website.
What specific principles of good design do they include and
why? The website is attractive and setup in such way that you see up close the
application of each product which is tested on the website on Christine herself.
The colors used on the website are vivid
and beautiful; you can see that a lot of effort is put into the structure of
the website
.
What makes you come back again? The website is known for its
great organization of makeup categories and its list of alternative makeup
options known as “DUPES".
What could be improved? I know that ads are necessary to
make an independent blogger successful, but I begin to feel watched when I see
ads for products I have been browsing on the internet pop up on the website.
www.sdccu.com
Why are they effective? San Diego County Credit Union is my
bank and I am an online banker. I need their website to be straight forward and
show me my accounts in a simple format, which I understand.
What specific principles of good design do they include and
why? The Website is has a very simple and
sophisticated layout. All my accounts are divided into their categories and my
account activity list is easy to follow.
What makes you come back again? I have to come back to check
on my money! I enjoying banking at SDCCU and feel like it take their role as
the “community bank” very well.
What could be improved? The started doing cash back rewards
for visiting certain vendors and the ads on these “added-on” perks are within
your account activity, which makes it very annoying at times. I would move
these ads to an area where my personal account information isn’t involved.

Week 3 - Design, Aesthetics & Branding
You can't go wrong with going to websites that belong to very successful companies, they have invested millions into it. Apple is a great example on how a website should look like, it's so sleek and clean and easy to navigate. The colors are so minimal that you notice the products before anything and the products are presented impeccably. The top grey tab with the nine tabs are to the point, if you are looking for Support there is a tab for it if you can't find what you are looking for there is a search icon to type in what you are looking for. With the launch of the new iPhone that's what you see on the landing page and it's the most beautiful image you will see. Apple has done it right people want to buy their products and the website supports their image. Ford has the same idea as Apple a clean and organized website. It has vibrant pictures of its automobiles and the background is all white to help the graphics. I see a similar theme going on with Apple and Ford, the simply settings make it very powerful. I did have a hard time finding the social media icons on the Ford website, I gave up after 2 2 seconds and on Apple it was the same case. I wonder if these companies don't need to depend so much on social media marketing as other companies? I would suggest that these companies make these options available on their landing page. It helps user find their social media platforms where they can be heard, give suggestions and feel like the are a part of the "Ford Community or Apple Community"

Sephora, I don't want to quit you!
I had the brilliant idea of working retail during Christmas last year and as a perk to myself I was allowed to purchase one makeup piece every pay period. I went to Sephora, I stood in line to pay for an item and when I was rung up the price was different. I asked the cashier why the price was different she rolled her eyes and summoned her manager, after 10 mins the manager gave me lip. I told her that I also was working retail and understood her position, but she didn't have to be a total douche about my questioning. I walked out of the door and blasted on Twitter (when I had one) what awful customer service I had gotten inside the JCPenney Sephora and would never go back. Twenty four hours later I was asked to contact customer affairs over a tweet and I retold my story via email. I was offered a $25.00 gift card for my unpleasant experience and was able to purchase more makeup. The magic of social media at it's best!

social media platforms
There are so many social media platforms that people can use for both personal and professional use for an example many cosmetic companies have taken social media by storm with feeds in Instagram, Facebook and even Tumblr. I find myself using my professional Facebook account for keeping in touch with family because they have to be linked together and use Instagram more as a personal creative outlet. I have seen companies who have creative Tumblr accounts to promote their businesses, but also as a means to be update in current events. I don't think there is a difference between which one can be used for what now a days when social media is such a strong means for promoting, outreach and marketing.

Week One
CSIT 155 Social Media for Business
I picked this template because I think you can't get anymore simpler than this one. The white background is crisp and clean and the font used is standard and easy to read. I have always wanted to blog, but never had much to say. Hope this new class gives me the push to start a blog to talk about all the things I learn through out the weeks.
