Week 3-Websites I Visit Frequently

www.temptalia.com

Why are they effective? I am a makeup hoarder and Christine of Temptalia.com has found a market of others who are interested in reading reviews of makeup before making a purchase. Temptalia.com has made a community of makeup lovers unite and has made it easy to find anything related to makeup within one website.

What specific principles of good design do they include and why? The website is attractive and setup in such way that you see up close the application of each product which is tested on the website on Christine herself.  The colors used on the website are vivid and beautiful; you can see that a lot of effort is put into the structure of the website
.
What makes you come back again? The website is known for its great organization of makeup categories and its list of alternative makeup options known as “DUPES".

What could be improved? I know that ads are necessary to make an independent blogger successful, but I begin to feel watched when I see ads for products I have been browsing on the internet pop up on the website.

www.sdccu.com
Why are they effective? San Diego County Credit Union is my bank and I am an online banker. I need their website to be straight forward and show me my accounts in a simple format, which I understand.

What specific principles of good design do they include and why?  The Website is has a very simple and sophisticated layout. All my accounts are divided into their categories and my account activity list is easy to follow.

What makes you come back again? I have to come back to check on my money! I enjoying banking at SDCCU and feel like it take their role as the “community bank” very well.

What could be improved? The started doing cash back rewards for visiting certain vendors and the ads on these “added-on” perks are within your account activity, which makes it very annoying at times. I would move these ads to an area where my personal account information isn’t involved.

Week 3 - Design, Aesthetics & Branding

You can't go wrong with going to websites that belong to very successful companies, they have invested millions into it. Apple is a great example on how a website should look like, it's so sleek and clean and easy to navigate. The colors are so minimal that you notice the products before anything and the products are presented impeccably. The top grey tab with the nine tabs are to the point, if you are looking for Support there is a tab for it if you can't find what you are looking for there is a search icon to type in what you are looking for. With the launch of the new iPhone that's what you see on the landing page and it's the most beautiful image you will see. Apple has done it right people want to buy their products and the website supports their image. Ford has the same idea as Apple a clean and organized website. It has vibrant pictures of its automobiles and the background is all white to help the graphics. I see a similar theme going on with Apple and Ford, the simply settings make it very powerful.  I did have a hard time finding the social media icons on the Ford website, I gave up after 2 2 seconds and on Apple it was the same case. I wonder if these companies don't need to depend so much on social media marketing as other companies?  I would suggest that these companies make these options available on their landing page. It helps user find their social media platforms where they can be heard, give suggestions and feel like the are a part of the "Ford Community or Apple Community"

Sephora, I don't want to quit you!

I had the brilliant idea of working retail during Christmas last year and as a perk to myself I was allowed to purchase one makeup piece every pay period. I went to Sephora, I stood in line to pay for an item and when I was rung up the price was different. I asked the cashier why the price was different she rolled her eyes and summoned her manager, after 10 mins the manager gave me lip. I told her that I also was working retail and understood her position, but she didn't have to be a total douche about my questioning. I walked out of the door and blasted on Twitter (when I had one) what awful customer service I had gotten inside the JCPenney Sephora and would never go back. Twenty four hours later I was asked to contact customer affairs over a tweet and I retold my story via email. I was offered a $25.00 gift card for my unpleasant experience and was able to purchase more makeup. The magic of social media at it's best!

social media platforms

There are so many social media platforms that people can use for both personal and professional use for an example many cosmetic companies have taken social media by storm with feeds in Instagram, Facebook and even Tumblr.  I find myself using my professional Facebook account for keeping in touch with family because they have to be linked together and use Instagram more as a personal creative outlet. I have seen companies who have creative Tumblr accounts to promote their businesses, but also as a means to be update in current events. I don't think there is a difference between which one can be used for what now a days when social media is such a strong means for promoting, outreach and marketing.

Week One CSIT 155

Week One
CSIT 155 Social Media for Business

I picked this template because I think you can't get anymore simpler than this one. The white background is crisp and clean and the font used is standard and easy to read. I have always wanted to blog, but never had much to say. Hope this new class gives me the push to start a blog to talk about all the things I learn through out the weeks.
